Personal Travel Interests: I love touring local sights on foot and by bike. I have travelled throughout the US and extensively internationally including Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and the South Pacific.
Favorite Experience in DC: Taking guests to the Library of Congress and Main Reading Room to witness the grandeur and expansive scope of the Library.
Getting Personal: On an extremely hot and humid day, I took 2 clients, a mom and her 10-year-old son, to Arlington National Cemetery. Their main focus was to visit their family’s gravesite as well as visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The tram transportation to the gravesite did not work out, but after taking the public tram up to the Tomb, we encountered a Tomb guard in training who invited us into the guard room (air-conditioned) to listen to his Cemetery history presentation. The general public does not usually have access to this room and in my 14 years of guiding, I had never been in this room. It was, to say the least, a VERY SPECIAL experience for both the client and me. We were able to meet the Sergeant of the guard as well as the 2 tomb guards about to go out for the hourly change ceremony. This was the lemonade in the lemon of not catching the gravesite tram…..But the family gravesite turned out to be very close to the Tomb, and we were able to walk to it from the tomb. Mission Accomplished, Enjoyed and certainly ENHANCED!
