Personal Travel Interests: I love exploring Europe and the Caribbean islands, visiting my family in Germany, and, closer to home, spending a week relaxing on a beach.
Favorite Experiences in DC: One of my favorite places is George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate. I have been visiting it since I was a young child. Over the years, I have seen changes and a different interpretation of colonial life and the people who inhabited and visited the estate in George Washington’s lifetime. In particular, the lives of enslaved people have been recognized. Whenever I bring visitors into the main hall and walk up the stairs, I get shivers when I think of the Founding Fathers who touched the same wooden bannisters and walked in the same rooms as I.
What I Like The Most About DC: I love taking people through sites and telling them stories that go beyond what they see before them in stone, landscaping and objects. Putting my guests into the era and people of that day, helps them understand what it might have been like in their ancestor’s shoes.
