Private Mount Vernon Tour Via Bike & Speedboat

We took two unique ways to explore Washington DC and brought them together in one full-day experience with our all-new Private Mount Vernon Tour Via Bike & Speedboat. This active adventure takes you from the nation’s capital – that President George Washington founded – to his beloved home of 40+ years, Mount Vernon. It then takes you back to the DC area via the Potomac – which just so happens to be the river that made Washington – both the man and the city – prosperous.

Your day starts out at your hotel (or another predetermined location) where you’ll hop on your bike and follow the lead of your expert tour guide taking in the sites along the beautiful bike paths from Washington DC all the way to Mount Vernon. Once you arrive in Mount Vernon, you’ll be met by a master guide who will give you a VIP tour of Washington’s beloved home and plantation – as well as other areas of Mount Vernon that are not accessible on any other tour.

After your time at George Washington’s historic home, you’ll board your private speedboat where you’ll travel up the Potomac River to Georgetown for the final leg of your tour which includes amazing views and plenty of commentary along the way!

Itinerary & Highlights

  • Your day trip adventure begins when your licensed tour guide meets you at your hotel – or at another location of your choosing within the DC Metropolitan area – with your bike, helmet, bottled water and snacks.
  • After a safety review you’ll head out on your bicycle tour which is approximately a 17-mile ride and takes about three hours to complete.
  • Your Washington DC bike route will have you pedaling past the White House and the Washington Monument, after which you’ll merge onto the city’s beautiful bike paths.
  • These peaceful paths will take you to and through historic Alexandria (which Washington surveyed as a young man) where you’ll get a chance to get off your bike thanks to a coffee and bakery stop.
  • After your stop for drinks and baked goods you’ll continue your ride to George Washington’s former home along the scenic and winding bike path, where, upon arrival at Mt Vernon, you’ll be treated to a private behind-the-scenes guided tour.
  • Your private tour of George Washington’s Mount Vernon, which is the most historic home in America, will be led by a senior-level Mount Vernon guide and will include the 21-room mansion as well as the gorgeous gardens and grounds.
  • Next up is some free time to grab lunch in Mount Vernon. You’ll have your choice of eating at the casual Food Court Pavilion or in the full-service restaurant, the Mount Vernon Inn, where you can step back into the tranquil atmosphere of the 18th century.
  • After exploring the plantation a bit more, you’ll stroll down to Mount Vernon Wharf where you’ll step onto your private speedboat. Once on board, you’ll continue your experience with a DC boat tour that takes place on the Potomac River.
  • Your super scenic speedboat ride will be helmed by a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain and expert tour guide. As you cruise the Potomac River back to Washington and Georgetown you’ll catch sight of the Pentagon, the Jefferson Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial, all from unique vantage points only visible from the water.
  • Upon disembarking your private boat ride in DC, your luxury transfer via private vehicle will be waiting to take you back to your hotel or other predetermined location within DC Metropolitan area.
  • All stops, timing and inclusions of the tour are dependent on traffic and weather conditions.
