Winner of seven Olivier Awards in London, an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1988 children’s book has arrived on Broadway. The set design is terrific and the illusions add to the magic powers of the lead character, Matilda.
Matilda follows an intelligent young girl with extraordinary powers who rebels against her nasty parents and the child-hating headmistress of her boarding school. Supported by her teacher, Matilda tries to rid her school of its evil headmistress, Miss Trunchbull using her wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers.
Be prepared for a highly amplified production with heavy British accents which can make following the storyline a bit challenging. You might find reading the book helpful prior to attending the performance although not required.
Audience: parents with children 8 and over will find this production charming.
