It’s a Big Easy insider’s Music Night in the Big Apple

Kevin Maloney, from Royal Insider in New Orleans was kind enough to share the following information for Jazz Fans that will be in New York on Wednesday, July 11th.  Kevin’s a huge music and art fan, so when he says this a great gig; you know that you want to make time for it.

You can catch two rising star New Orleans jazz musicians in the same night at two hip Village clubs.  At 8:00pm be at Zirzamin in Greenwich Village (90 West Houston St, www.zirzaminnyc.com) for the stunning Sasha Masakowski, one of the premiere New Orleans jazz vocalists of her generation.  Sasha’s among the stream of brilliant performers that continues to flow out of the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (the city’s celebrated arts high school whose alumni include Harry Connick Jr., Terence Blanchard, Nicholas Payton, the Marsalis brothers, Trombone Shorty and actor Wendell Pierce).  In her mid-20’s, Sasha is already performing internationally and has become a perennial nominee for Best Female Vocalist in New Orleans.  http://sashamasakowski.com

After Sasha’s one hour set, hoof it (or cab it) over to Joe’s Pub in the East Village (425 Lafayette St, http://www.joespub.com) by 9:30pm for Sasha’s NOCCA classmate Jonathan Batiste, the brilliant jazz pianist who’s been living in NYC since he arrived to attend Juilliard (on full scholarship).  Jonathan tours & records with Cassandra Wilson, just came back from opening the TEDglobal conference in Edinburgh and has now been appointed co-director of the Jazz Museum in Harlem.  http://jonathanbatiste.com

If you have information about your local favorites that will be in New York, please do send the information to us to share!
